Obligatory Friends Only Post

Aug. 8th, 2029 | 02:57 pm

I am Kate, also known as Welsh Kate or Ymwelwr.  In this journal I ramble about random stuff.  Sometimes it's moaning about work/family and sometimes it's squeeing about fannish things.  Most posts are f-locked but if you add me I will add you.  I'm nice like that.

Castle Fic can be found here at Archive of Our Own and Voyager Fic is here at abderian.net.

Castleland Big Bang

Mar. 17th, 2012 | 09:15 pm

Two fanmixes.  Very last minute entries for [info]castleland's Big Bang Challenge, so...  Yeah. Eclectic, in a what-do-I-have-on-my-iPod-that-fits kind of way.

Some say you might lose your mind )

Castleland Recast challenge

Feb. 8th, 2012 | 11:57 am
location: desk
mood: blankblank
music: The only doom that's looming is you loving me to death...

This is for Castleland challenge 09.  A recasting of 5 regular or recurring characters, and a picspam for each actor.  I tried, but I just couldn't recast Castle or Beckett (because nobody has hair as awesome as Stana Katic).  So I've recast Martha Rodgers, Jim Beckett, Captain Montgomery, Kevin Ryan and Javier Esposito.  I wasn't intentionally going for a theme, but one emerged anyway...  Some of these people were seriously hard to find photos for, so sorry about the randomness of the picspams ;)

Castleland Challenge 08

location: Hiding from Creepy Beckett
mood: awakeawake
music: ...not even Quincy or the dog from Due South...

So [info]castleland has a challenge about favourite characters. I was going to do a Fanmix but Photoshop threw a hissy fit at the last minute, so I've chosen the essay option instead.

Challenge: Explain the five reasons why your favourite character is your favourite. 100 words per reason.

Supermarket Matters is an eight-episode comedy podcast about a new supermarket in the fictional village of Llanmorgan.  The project used social media to bring together writers, voice actors, musicians etc and was masterminded by a friend of mine.

I promised to shamelessly promote it all over my corner of the internet.  My corner of the internet is not very big, so please have a listen and see what you think.  Recommend it to others.  Share it with your friends.  Discuss it over the watercooler at work.  Tweet about it.  Whatever.

The Grand Opening (Episode 1) is available now.  You can listen to it and download it from here.  It should be available on iTunes soon too.  New episodes are released each Monday.

Don't laugh at the theme tune.  I wrote it :)

Overheard in the supermarket...

location: leaving for work. Again.
mood: giddygiddy

A mother, with a five year old child in tow, was pushing her trolley around the poultry section (incidentally, they're doing a 'roast for 4 for £15' offer atm).  She picked up a sizable bird and put it in her trolley.  Junior started poking and squishing the chicken in that way children do when they encounter prepacked raw meat (actually, I still do it when I pick up fresh meat, but I'm decidedly childish when grocery shopping...).

MOTHER: Don't do that.  The chicken won't like it.

I may have had a giggle fit over in the veg section.  I'm sure that being poked by a kid is the least of the dead-and-about-to-be-roasted chicken's problems.

It's Trek Jim, but not as we know it...

music: The Eagles

Sorry, that's on a par with the newspaper headlines of the (glowing) reviews for the new Star Trek film, but I couldn't resist.  Thanks to [info]emu1985 and her brilliant organisational skills (well, the ability to send a text or two...), a few of us went to see Star Trek last night.  And I liked it.  A lot.  It wasn't Trek in the traditional sense, but that didn't matter at all.  I mean, it was Trek obviously, and recognisably so, but it was shiny and new and very exciting, and I am in love with Star Trek all over again. Which is nice.

All hands on deck, swirly thing alert! Here be spoilers... )

Despite a little nitpicking, I loved the film and I already want to watch it again.
